I want to go to BRGS!
What Is BRGS?

Bacon, Raddish, Grape Sandwich?
Brilliant, Reliable, Gleeful Squirrel?
No! It's Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School. We are in Waterfoot and about 1260 Students come here from Rossendale and surrounding towns.

How Do I Get In?

The school holds an entrance exam each year in September to select its pupils. There is more information about the exam in the blue booklet.

Will I Be With My Friends?

If you pass the exam and you are selected, you will be visited in your Primary School, so we can meet you, find out about your interests and put you in a class with your friends and others who share similar interests with you.

Why Should I Go There?

Apart from being a BRILLIANT school with loads to do, exciting things to learn and a friendly atmosphere - you'll be assured of a good education, which is very important.

Find out more for yourself at the OPEN EVENING

How Do I get To School?

Buses from Constable Lee, Crawshawbooth, Burnley and Rochdale all drop me and my friends off almost at the door.
Bacup, Rawtenstall and Accrington buses all stop at the end of the street.

What Happens At Lunch Time?
(P.S. I don't like Rice Pudding!)
Don't worry, it's not my favourite either... but you can choose from six main courses at the hot food counter; try the salad bar or the snack bar. You'll be with your friends so you decide.

You can even get to school early and have toast or have bacon sandwiches for Breakfast.

What Happens If I Get Lost?

It's easy... there are lots of people whose job it is to look after you.
Your Form Teacher and the Welfare Ladies at lunch time.
Form Prefects - sixth formers who come to registration. They are great friends!
Buddies - someone a year or two older than you from the same Primary School or from the same area, who will check up on you to make sure everything is all right.
Your Head of Year - who is concerned that you are settled and happy.
Your subject teachers and your friends - they will all help you with any problems.

Are There Bullies At BRGS?

We hope not! - but if they turn up, we have a special system of dealing with them! Come and tell us straight away if there is a problem and we will sort it out. Bullying is NOT tolerated. Bullying policy

What Happens On The Day Of The Entrance Exam?

Pupils will be in groups of 15-16 in each room and will sit three papers: Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning. DON'T WORRY! The papers have been written specially for pupils who have just entered Year 6.

Can I Play Sports... or join Clubs?

Yes, but that's not all... we have discos at regular intervals, loads of fun at Christmas, Trips to foreign countries, Activity Days - abseiling, canoeing, climbing and walking... there are Choir, music groups.. etc.
