Part
of Mrs Stanley's history class 9B and
their "Make
do and Mend" project which they have been
working on as part of their study of life on the Home Front
during
World War 2.
They worked together using
fabric donated by Musbury Fabrics and old clothes donated
by students from years,7,8 & 9.
Working in groups they used authentic patterns to create
new garments from either the furnishing fabrics or a
combination
of old clothes. They were not allowed to buy anything
for the project, so zips, buttons etc had to be found
from discarded clothes. They had to be very inventive
with their creating of frills and trimmings.
They made ladies clothes and children's clothes and displayed
them in whole school assembly.
It
encouraged them to think about how you can change old clothes
and so save resources rather than buying
new ones.
There is now a page on Moodle where students who have
been encouraged to follow in 9B's example and design
their old clothes or make new from old can send in their
photos of their creations.
