It
is our policy to encourage all students to undertake a quality
experience placement during their lower sixth year (Year 12). By
spending time in local hospitals, firms and offices, many students
have gained a valuable insight into a professional world beyond
school. As a result, career goals are clarified, higher education
targets brought more clearly into focus and students can see
even greater purpose to their academic studies.
Many students spend time in local primary schools, enjoying the opportunity to
assist the education of younger children. Such an experience is highly value
by higher education institutions offering Initial Teacher Training Courses. Other
students have spent their time assisting in nursing homes, work shadowing journalists
or observing high pressure
sales negotiations first hand!
Whilst the school provides full assistance
to students, we do encourage as many sixth formers as possible to find
and arrange their own work placements. To be able to write on
an employment or higher education reference that a student arranged his
or her own work placement says a great deal about the initiative of the
individual concerned and undoubtedly impresses any would-be interviewer.
