| Why
did you take a gap year? - was it planned? |
No!
I only decided to do it at the last minute
in June because I was offered a place on
a team working at a Christian Arts Centre
in London.
|
| What
did you do on your gap year, and why? |
| See
above! It included loads of youth
work, in primary and secondary schools, drama
clubs, singing, dancing, office work, working
in a theatre… |
| What
were the advantages of taking a gap year?
What did you achieve? |
Rehearsal
for the social side of uni! I wonder how
I would have coped living with the people
I lived with in first year if I had not grown
up a bit first.
|
| Were
there any disadvantages to taking a gap year? |
| Absolutely
none. |
| Was
the university which offered you a place,
happy for you to defer entry and take a gap
year? |
| Yes,
no problem. Sometimes I wonder that as media
is so oversubscribed that taking a gap year
didn’t help secure my place even more
firmly. |
How
did you raise money to fund yourself through
your gap year?
|
| With
great difficulty! My mum paid loads, as did
my gran, but I also was supported a lot through
my home church. |
| Would
you recommend what you did on your gap year
to others? |
| Yes,
because it was London, and it was rather fun.
But it was such a lot of hard work, which is
hard to swallow when you are paying £3000
to do it! But there is no other way you could
live in London for a year that cheaply. |
| Any
other comments about gap years: |
| It
is difficult money wise because if you have
to pay to do it, it feels wrong to be paying
out money when you know you really could do
with saving it for going to uni. Obviously
if you work for a year, you could save money,
but living away from home in an organised environment
again has it’s advantages. |
