Human Biology

This qualification (AQA specification A) provides an opportunity to gain an understanding of biology through the study of fundamental biological principles whilst exploring modern applications of Human Biology.

The first module taught by three teachers, covers Molecules, Cells and Systems and is examined in January.

The second module entitled Pathogens and Disease is examined in June.

The coursework at AS is more involved than straight Biology and comprises ten skill areas that form 25% of the final AS qualification. The ten skill areas involve a practical experiment and write up, along with a research project and an assessment of biological drawing accuracy.

A2 Human Biology comprises modules entitled Inheritance, Evolution and Ecosystems and The Human Life Span. A synoptic paper with short answers and an essay question is undertaken in June. The coursework at A2 is practically based and forms 10% of the full A Level.
