English Language

The English Department is a large, friendly and highly successful one, dedicated to offering you interesting, stimulating and relevant courses which lead to academic success.

The Department offers four subjects at AS/A2 level - English Language, English Literature, English Language and Literature (combined) and Drama and Theatre Studies. We know how important it is to choose your courses wisely so please ask - we are here to help!

Where should we be without language? Nowhere! Perhaps that is what makes the English Language course one of the most popular at BRGS!

The subject is a fascinating one, covering many areas of the study of English, from how language
can give us power to how we actually acquire it in the first place.

Quite soon, you will understand how words work a
nd, from there, go on to see how language is used
in the real world. You might, for example, examine political correctness or analyse how politicians use and abuse our language. Not only that, you will
have the opportunity to undertake some real language research of your own.

Higher Education and Career opportunities:

English Language is an excellent preparation for life, for higher education and for a range of careers, which rely on communication: law, public relations, marketing, teaching and management.
