English Language and Literature

The English Department is a large, friendly and highly successful one, dedicated to offering you interesting, stimulating and relevant courses which lead to academic success.

The Department offers four subjects at AS/A2 level - English Language, English Literature, English Language and Literature (combined) and Drama and Theatre Studies. We know how important it is to choose your courses wisely so please ask - we are here to help!

The course offers an interesting and exciting combination, incorporating the written and spoken elements of English language with an enjoyable exploration of major writers in English Literature.

You will be taught to use languages for a range of purposes and audiences and there will be opportunities to undertake coursework at both "AS" and "A2" Levels. Naturally, there is an expectation that you will read enthusiastically and become involved in discussion issues raised during the course. There will be a range of written assignments to complete and you will be thoroughly prepared for the examiniations, some of which are "open book".

Higher Education and Career opportunities:

This combined course is excellent preparation for a range of higher education course and careers wihch rely on communication and an understanding of human behaviour. These include law, media, personnel, teaching, business, public relations and management.
