Physics

Welcome to the Physics Department which has experienced and well qualified teachers who have seen excellent results and growing student numbers in recent years.
The Edexcel (London) syllabus is based on the A' level syllabus currently taught at BRGS. Success in physics demands hard work and commitment. A genuine interest in the physical sciences and competence in maths are essential.

Physics is a demanding and wide-ranging subject, covering the behaviour of the tiniest sub-atomic particles to the expansion of the whole universe. The subject has many practical applications, bring the basis of all modern technological developments.

AS Course (Year 12)
Topics in the first year include mechanics, radioactivity and the nucleus, electricity, thermal physics and astrophysics. All topics are examined at the end of the year along with a practical exam. Regular practical work enforces each topic and prepares for the practical exam. For those not taking AS maths there will be an extra lessons each week in "Maths for Physicists".

A2 Course (Year 13)
Year 13 topics include circular motion, oscillations, and the behaviour of waves. Quantum effects are studied along with the expansion of the universe. Fields and forces are examined in the context of gravitational, electric and magnetic fields. There is also a practical exam and a synoptic paper which examines aspects of the whole syllabus and some specified applications.
