BRGS is a designated grammar school primarily for children who attend primary schools in Bacup, Rawtenstall and the surrounding areas. As a grammar school, our entire intake is selected on the basis of high academic ability.

We admit up to 180 students each year, based on their performance in our entrance examination, which is held each September. We hold an open evening each June to give parents and potential students the chance to look around the school before applying to sit our entrance examination.

Children must pass the entrance exam in order to be considered for a place. However, passing the examination is not a guarantee of a place due to our over-subscription criterion.

Appeals for places in Year 7, September 2020

The entrance exam for entry September 2020 took place in September 2019 and places have been offered on the basis of the results. Information will appear in time for appeals to be submitted in March 2020.

In-Year Admissions

In-year admissions occur when a student leaves BRGS and a place becomes available. Information about in-year admissions can be found here. This information is a part of our overall admissions policy which is available here.
