Since the beginning of January, years 7, 8 and 9 have been a hive of political activity. Tutor groups and then year groups have elected candidates to stand for the Lancashire Youth Council as the BRGS representative, and to be one of the five voices for Rossendale on the council.

Gemma Torkington was elected on Tuesday 29th January and will represent school on the Youth Council for approximately two years. Gemma will attend meetings in Preston, and raise the needs of Rossendale young people; she may be involved in consultation groups, and also in national events as well.

Well done to all the 16 original candidates who represented their tutor groups; and the final 6 who, in pairs, were elected from years 7,8 and 9. They gave up time to meet with Ms Williams and the Rossendale Youth Participation worker, Ruth Porter, to train for the role, and it took a lot of courage to present ideas for the future of Rossendale in school assembly. All the finalists did very well.

Congratulations!
