This academic year BRGS’s student newspaper, The Squirrel, has returned after a ten-year absence with a new look, engaging articles and the best of student journalism at the school. Students requested that the school newspaper returned as an extracurricular club this year, and Miss Ingham took the helm, supporting a group of around 50 students from across Years 7-13 to produce the publication below. In September/October, students applied for leadership positions for the paper, proposed articles, decided on the creative direction of the relaunched Squirrel. Students then researched and wrote their articles, including interviews with staff, past students and a successful author, whilst the Creative team, led by Sienna in Year 13, worked on original digital art and photography to elevate the publication beyond your typical student newspaper.

The Squirrel will be published three times a year (Autumn/Winter, Spring, and Summer) and The Squirrel team will be meeting on Wednesday 10th January in E07 at lunchtime to begin planning for Spring. New members are welcome to come along and get involved, and if you have any ideas for possible articles, interviews with past students, staff or successful figures from any field, please contact Miss Ingham at lei@brgsmail.org.uk.

We hope you enjoy reading the first issue!
